Media release: Western Sydney Marathon 2015

Minister for Sport and Penrith MP Stuart Ayres today announced registrations are now open for the Western Sydney Marathon to be held on Saturday 3 October 2015 at the Sydney International Regatta Centre in Penrith.

“Attracting national and international competitors it’s a significant event for Penrith, Western Sydney and NSW. It also adds to the multi-purpose portfolio of events on offer at the Sydney International Regatta Centre.

“With more than 700 runners already registered including15 international entries from Kenya, Brazil, Singapore and the US this event continues to grow in popularity and is also an important fixture on the Australian running calendar.

“With the course accredited by Athletics Australia, the event is set to expand in Western Sydney and continue to attract local, national and international entrants,” Mr Ayres said.

The event consists of four different races to cater for all ages and abilities:

  • Marathon
  • Half Marathon
  • 10km Lap the Lake
  • 5km Family Fun Run

Manager of Sydney International Regatta Centre, Kevin Flynn said people of all ages with all levels of fitness are welcome to come and enjoy the day.

“The Western Sydney Marathon is considered to be the most affordable running festival in NSW. A flat fast course has been designed for the event, which will weave around the roads within the Sydney International Regatta Centre with scenic views of Penrith Lakes and the Lower Blue Mountains.” Mr Flynn said.

With a spate of personal bests in 2014 the course is sure to inspire runners to achieve their personal best again in 2015. Winners of the half and full marathon receive a trophy with all runners receiving a finisher’s medal.

The Western Sydney Marathon is a fun and festive day out for the whole family with a health and fitness expo, activities for the kids including a jumping castle. Whether you push a pram around the Family Fun Run or complete the full marathon, this event is about bringing the community together and celebrating a healthy, active lifestyle.
